Hotels in Laguna Beach

• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Laguna Beach, California.
The second oldest city in Orange County, Laguna Beach is a quaint, upscale California beach town known for its arts scene and seven miles of marine-protected coastline between the Pacific Ocean and Crystal Cove State Park on the west, and Dana Point and Aliso Viejo on the east. The entire town—from shoreline to high-peaked canyons—covers less than 10 sq mi (26 sq km), and is accessible only by two roads: the Coast Highway from Newport Beach and Laguna Canyon Road (State Route 133) that passes through Laguna Canyon.

Visitors seeking accommodation in Laguna Beach will find a wide selection of hotels and bed and breakfast inns to choose from that range from economically priced hotels and motels to luxury beachfront suites, all of which are generally located in four main sections of Laguna Beach.

NORTH LAGUNA

Travelers seeking no-frills discounted stays with easy access to the sand and surf flock to the North Laguna area, where quaint boutique hotels along the Coast Highway offer lower prices and easy access to year-round 15-ft (5-m) surfing waves, diving and swimming spots, and tide pool discoveries nestled in area coves. It is important to note that because Laguna’s beaches have marine-protected status and therefore do not allow pets, many of the hotels in Laguna Beach are not pet friendly.

MAIN BEACH/DOWNTOWN

Located between Main Beach and Central Bluffs on the Coast Highway is the town’s art mecca, beginning with the family-friendly Laguna Art Museum and leading into the town’s Civic Art District. This area boasts the highest concentration of privately owned art galleries and hotels, offering ample opportunities for travelers to experience both the beach and arts scenes easily, as well as many boutique stores and eateries. The five-star Inn at Laguna Beach offers luxury suites with ocean views just steps away from the museum and several galleries, while simpler establishments like the nearby Tides offer quaint, streamlined stays within walking distance to nightlife.

CENTRAL BLUFF/WOODS COVE

Heading south from downtown, visitors will find moderately-priced hotels that are perfect for budget-conscious travelers and those seeking family-friendly stays. Most are within walking distance to affordable shops and restaurants and, despite being one street inland from the sand, many hotels also have ocean view rooms upon request. The Pacific Edge Hotel on Laguna Beach features an arcade, game room and heated pool. Heading further inland are less expensive hotel and motel chains, with one exception: InVogue Laguna Beach, which features a collection of uniquely themed suites that feel like upscale homes for business travelers and couples.

BLUE LAGOON/MONARCH BEACH

Luxury hotels and spas are the highlight of the south Laguna Beach area, where posh accommodations spread out over large expanses of land and gourmet eateries play a close second to breaking ocean waves crashing against the bluffs. Two notable establishments are Montage Laguna Beach, which caters to families and adults alike with babysitter services, complimentary adult fitness classes and car service to downtown eateries, and the Mediterranean-themed St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa in Dana Point that offers extensive day spa services along with its own golf course and private beach club.
